Best of Film of the Year (So Far) is...
...Layer Cake. Granted I haven't seen some of the supposed top films of the year so far like Millions or Palidromes, but Layer Cake was excellent and flawless. Daniel Craig is the lead and is charismatic without being hammy or obvious. He has been stellar in everything I've seen him in and is a very versatile actor capable of playing intellectuals, psychopaths, regular Joes, and smooth criminals with equal aplomb. The film definitely in the same genre as recent British gangster flicks like Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, but unlike most of those films it has depth. It could be a complete splashy gaudy film but it remains restrained throughout which just heightens the tension. The plot is never predictable an never implausible. And the ending? Perfect! Anyway, go see it and ignore that bad football remake.
